Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive occupational health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement within the industrial estate.
- Perform detailed risk assessments for all operational activities, machinery, and processes, recommending and overseeing the implementation of effective control measures.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, conducting root cause analysis and preparing detailed reports with corrective and preventive actions.
- Design and deliver engaging safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as hazard communication, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation, including those set by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
- Manage emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire drills, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and regulatory documentation.
- Collaborate with department managers to integrate safety practices into daily operations and promote a strong safety culture.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes to ensure continuous improvement in our H&S management system.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigation.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and train diverse groups.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective safety management systems.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- Recognized professional certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience working with diverse industrial equipment and processes.
