Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately, monitoring for adverse reactions and documenting thoroughly.
  • Monitor vital signs, interpret results, and escalate concerns to medical staff as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to data protection policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with doctors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients and their families regarding their condition, treatment, and progress.
  • Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring a smooth and coordinated process.
  • Participate in ward rounds, contributing to patient care discussions and decision-making.
  • Educate patients and their families on health management and post-discharge care.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and relevant legislation, including infection control protocols.

Required Skills

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Demonstrable experience in a general medical or surgical ward setting
  • Excellent clinical assessment and observation skills
  • Proficiency in medication administration and management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Sound knowledge of patient safety principles and risk management
  • Basic IT skills for patient record management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electronic patient record systems (EPR)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
  • Experience in specialized areas (e.g., elderly care, rehabilitation)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) relevant to general nursing
  • Mentorship qualification or experience
