Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in estimating and costing to join our dynamic team at Gamma Construction Ltd. This pivotal role requires a meticulous professional with a keen eye for detail and a solid understanding of construction economics, contract administration, and project financial management. As a key member of our project teams, you will be responsible for managing all costs and financial aspects of building and civil engineering projects, from initial feasibility studies through to the final account. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that projects are completed within budget and to the highest standards of quality, while mitigating financial risks and maximizing value for our clients and the company.

This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including preparing detailed cost estimates at various project stages, analyzing tender submissions, negotiating with contractors and suppliers, and drafting comprehensive contract documents. You will be instrumental in forecasting project costs, identifying potential cost variations, and implementing effective cost control measures throughout the project lifecycle. Furthermore, you will be responsible for evaluating progress claims, conducting valuations of work completed, managing change orders, and preparing final accounts. Strong analytical skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a thorough knowledge of local construction practices and regulations are paramount. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders, providing expert financial guidance and ensuring robust contractual management. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and cost plans for various construction projects from concept to completion.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and value engineering to provide cost-effective solutions.
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities and specifications.
  • Analyze and evaluate tenders, negotiating with contractors and suppliers to secure best value.
  • Manage and administer construction contracts, ensuring adherence to terms and conditions.
  • Monitor project costs, identifying potential overruns and implementing effective cost control measures.
  • Prepare periodic valuations of work in progress for interim payments and final accounts.
  • Assess, negotiate, and agree on variations/change orders with contractors and clients.
  • Provide regular financial reports and forecasts to project management and senior leadership.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Resolve contractual and commercial disputes efficiently and professionally.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and documentation for all project-related financial matters.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations in Mauritius.
  • Proficiency in cost estimation, budgeting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract administration skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word) and quantity surveying software.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional membership with a recognized institution (e.g., RICS, IQSSL).
  • Experience with large-scale commercial, residential, or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and its application in cost management.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites.
