Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of railway tracks, identifying defects such as worn rails, damaged sleepers, and faulty fastenings.
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on track infrastructure, including replacing rails, sleepers, and ballast.
- Adjust track alignment, gauge, and superelevation to ensure optimal operational conditions.
- Maintain and repair switches, crossings, and other track components.
- Operate and maintain specialized track maintenance equipment and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Respond to track emergencies, including derailments, washouts, and other incidents, to ensure rapid restoration of service.
- Control vegetation within the right-of-way to prevent obstruction and fire hazards.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines.
- Complete accurate documentation of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in various weather conditions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical experience with hand and power tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify potential hazards or defects.
- Proven ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Sound understanding of railway safety procedures and practices.
- Basic numeracy and literacy for reading instructions and completing reports.
- Valid Class B driver's license (or equivalent) is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or certification in railway track construction or maintenance.
- Prior experience (2+ years) in track maintenance, construction, or a similar heavy industrial outdoor environment.
- Knowledge of German railway specific standards (EBO, Ril 820).
- Experience operating railway maintenance machinery (e.g., tampers, ballast regulators).
- First aid certification.
