Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Agricultural Officer to join our network of experts, focusing on inspection and advisory services within the vibrant agricultural landscape of Belle Rose, Quatre Bornes. This pivotal role involves safeguarding food quality, promoting sustainable farming practices, and ensuring compliance with national and international agricultural standards. You will be instrumental in conducting on-site inspections of farms, produce markets, and processing facilities to verify adherence to regulations concerning crop health, pest management, pesticide use, and food safety. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular on-site inspections of farms, nurseries, markets, and storage facilities to ensure compliance with agricultural laws, food safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Provide expert technical advice and guidance to farmers and agricultural businesses on best practices in crop production, pest and disease management, soil conservation, irrigation, and sustainable farming techniques.
- Monitor and evaluate the application of pesticides, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs, ensuring safe and responsible use.
- Investigate complaints related to agricultural practices, crop health, food quality, and environmental impact, proposing effective solutions.
- Prepare comprehensive inspection reports, documenting findings, non-compliance issues, and recommending corrective measures.
- Facilitate training sessions and workshops for farmers on new technologies, regulatory updates, and improved agricultural methods.
- Collaborate with local agricultural organizations, research institutions, and government agencies to support sector development and policy implementation.
- Assist in the collection of agricultural data for statistical analysis and policy formulation.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in agricultural science, technology, and relevant legislation.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in agricultural inspection, extension services, or farm management.
- Thorough knowledge of Mauritian agricultural practices, regulations, and food safety standards.
- Proven ability to conduct detailed field inspections and analytical assessments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French (Creole an advantage).
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a practical approach to agricultural challenges.
- Proficiency in using standard office software and agricultural data management tools.
- Valid driving license and willingness to travel extensively within the assigned region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant agricultural discipline.
