Job Description

As an IT Technician specializing in Hardware Setup & Troubleshooting at Career.zycto, you will be the backbone of our operational efficiency, ensuring that all hardware components function flawlessly across our dynamic environment in Marple, Manchester. This pivotal role involves the meticulous setup, configuration, maintenance, and rapid resolution of issues pertaining to a wide array of IT hardware, including desktops, laptops, printers, networking devices, and peripheral equipment. You will be instrumental in supporting our team by deploying new systems, upgrading existing infrastructure, and providing expert technical assistance to minimize downtime and optimize performance.

Your day will be varied and challenging, moving from imaging and deploying new workstations for incoming staff to diagnosing complex hardware faults and implementing timely repairs. You’ll work hands-on with components, performing upgrades, replacing faulty parts, and ensuring all systems comply with our security and performance standards. Beyond the immediate technical tasks, you will be a crucial point of contact for internal users, translating technical jargon into understandable solutions and fostering a culture of self-sufficiency where possible. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine setup, installation, configuration, and deployment of IT hardware, including desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, and peripherals.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware issues efficiently, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  • Conduct hardware repairs, component replacements, and upgrades to extend equipment lifespan and enhance performance.
  • Provide timely and professional technical support to internal users for hardware-related queries and problems.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all IT hardware assets and manage hardware lifecycle from procurement to disposal.
  • Assist with network hardware installation and basic configuration (routers, switches, access points).
  • Ensure all hardware systems comply with company security policies and operational standards.
  • Collaborate with the broader IT team to identify recurring issues and propose preventative measures or system improvements.
  • Document troubleshooting procedures, solutions, and hardware configurations for knowledge sharing.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on hardware to ensure optimal functionality and longevity.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting PC hardware components (CPU, RAM, HDD/SSD, Motherboard, GPU).
  • Experience with operating system installation and configuration (Windows, macOS).
  • Familiarity with network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and basic network troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of peripheral device installation and driver management.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification.
  • Experience with ticketing systems and IT service management (ITSM) tools.
  • Knowledge of mobile device management (MDM) platforms.
  • Familiarity with virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
  • Previous experience in a helpdesk or desktop support role.
  • Relevant Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field.
