We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Database Administrator to join our innovative team in Gorton, Manchester. As a key member of our technology department, you will be responsible for the performance, integrity, security, and availability of our critical database systems. Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases in production and development environments.
- Develop, implement, and test database backup and recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement effective tuning solutions to optimize query execution and overall system speed.
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including indexing, integrity checks, and space management.
- Manage database security, including user permissions, roles, and authentication.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues, including connectivity, performance, and data integrity problems.
- Implement and manage replication, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, and other high availability solutions.
- Collaborate with development teams to design efficient database schemas and optimize application queries.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical database support outside of business hours.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Database Administrator with SQL Server.
- Strong proficiency in T-SQL for querying, scripting, and stored procedure development.
- Expertise in designing and implementing robust backup and recovery solutions (full, differential, transaction log).
- Proven experience with database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
- Solid understanding of SQL Server architecture and database security best practices.
- Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Log Shipping).
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for database automation.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex database-related issues efficiently.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or relevant SQL Server certifications.
