Job Description
Career.zycto is on the lookout for a highly organised and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our expanding team in Kings Heath, Birmingham. This pivotal role will be instrumental in maintaining the financial integrity of our operations and supporting our diverse client portfolio. As a Bookkeeper, you will be the backbone of our financial administration, responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring meticulous record-keeping. We are seeking an individual with a strong understanding of bookkeeping principles, excellent numerical accuracy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Your day-to-day will involve a variety of tasks crucial to our financial health, from reconciling bank statements and processing invoices to preparing VAT returns and assisting with month-end close procedures. You’ll work closely with our senior accounting staff, providing essential support and ensuring all financial transactions are recorded consistently and compliantly. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and process company payroll accurately and on time, including pension contributions and statutory deductions.
- Process purchase invoices, expense claims, and supplier payments efficiently.
- Raise and issue sales invoices, credit notes, and manage accounts receivable follow-up.
- Perform bank reconciliations and reconcile general ledger accounts regularly.
- Maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and journals using accounting software.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Handle financial queries from clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and company policies.
- Support senior accountants with ad-hoc financial tasks and reporting as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper with a strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
- Solid experience with payroll processing and associated regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- AAT qualification (Level 3 or higher) or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in a consultancy or practice environment.
- Familiarity with various industry-specific accounting practices.
- Advanced Excel skills.
