Job Description

Are you an experienced Freight Forwarder passionate about the intricate dance of international logistics and precise documentation? Career.zycto, acting on behalf of a prominent logistics firm based in Halesowen, Birmingham, is seeking a meticulous and proactive individual to join a thriving team. This pivotal role involves orchestrating the seamless movement of goods across global borders, ensuring compliance with all international shipping regulations and customs requirements. You will be the linchpin in managing end-to-end freight processes, from initial booking to final delivery, for a diverse range of clients and commodities.

In this dynamic position, you will be responsible for a portfolio of international shipments, primarily focusing on sea and air freight. Your day will be filled with coordinating with carriers, overseas agents, and customers, negotiating freight rates, and optimizing shipping routes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. A deep understanding of Incoterms, customs procedures, and trade compliance is essential. You’ll prepare and manage all necessary shipping documentation, including bills of lading, airway bills, customs declarations, and certificates of origin, ensuring accuracy and timely submission. Proactive communication will be key, keeping clients informed of shipment statuses, resolving any transit issues, and providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end international freight movements, primarily sea and air freight.
  • Prepare, process, and manage all shipping documentation (e.g., bills of lading, airway bills, customs declarations, certificates of origin).
  • Coordinate with carriers, overseas agents, hauliers, and clients to ensure smooth operations.
  • Negotiate freight rates and optimize shipping routes for cost and efficiency.
  • Ensure strict compliance with international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and trade compliance.
  • Provide proactive communication and excellent customer service, keeping clients informed of shipment status and resolving issues.
  • Handle customs entries and clearances, working with HMRC where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases of all shipments and related documentation.
  • Identify and resolve operational challenges and discrepancies efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Freight Forwarder in international shipping (sea and air freight).
  • Comprehensive understanding of Incoterms 2020, customs procedures, and international trade compliance.
  • Proficiency in preparing and managing shipping documentation.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with freight forwarding software.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications in international trade, logistics, or customs procedures.
  • Experience with specialist freight forwarding systems (e.g., CargoWise, Boxtop).
  • Multilingual abilities, particularly in European or Asian languages.
  • Knowledge of specific industry regulations (e.g., dangerous goods, perishables).
