Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Port Operator with a strong focus on Dock & Warehouse Coordination to join our thriving operations in Brierley Hill, Birmingham. This pivotal role requires a meticulous individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, ensuring the seamless movement of goods through our facility. As a Port Operator, you will be at the forefront of our logistical prowess, responsible for orchestrating the efficient loading, unloading, storage, and dispatch of various commodities. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate daily dock operations, including scheduling incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Oversee the efficient loading, unloading, and securing of cargo from various transport modes (trucks, rail, etc.).
  • Monitor and manage warehouse inventory, ensuring accurate record-keeping and optimal storage utilisation.
  • Implement and enforce strict health and safety regulations, conducting regular inspections and promoting a culture of safety.
  • Operate and supervise the use of material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, reach trucks) safely and efficiently.
  • Liaise with internal teams, drivers, and external partners to resolve operational issues and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including manifests, bills of lading, and inventory reports.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Port Operator, Warehouse Coordinator, or similar logistics role.
  • Proficiency in warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory control.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within a logistics environment.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Valid forklift and/or other material handling equipment licenses.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of coordinating diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to operational challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Logistics Operations or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience with Customs procedures and international shipping documentation.
  • Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma principles in a logistics context.
  • First Aid certification.
