Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Painter to join our growing construction and maintenance team in Smethwick, Birmingham. This is a crucial role for a highly skilled individual who takes immense pride in delivering superior finishes and maintaining the aesthetic integrity of various properties. As a Painter, you will be instrumental in the final stages of new construction projects, ensuring surfaces are prepared and painted to the highest standards, as well as undertaking vital maintenance and redecoration tasks across our existing portfolio.

Your day-to-day work will involve a wide array of painting and decorating activities, from intricate detailing to large-scale surface coverage. You will be responsible for preparing various surfaces including plaster, wood, and metal, applying undercoats, sealers, and topcoats using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment where appropriate. A keen eye for detail is paramount, as you will be expected to achieve flawless finishes, free from imperfections. This role requires not only technical expertise but also a proactive approach to problem-solving, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and within specified timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare various surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, patching, and priming.
  • Apply paint, varnish, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and sprayers according to project specifications.
  • Perform decorative painting, stenciling, and special finishes as required.
  • Inspect finished surfaces for quality and address any imperfections.
  • Undertake touch-up and repair work on existing painted surfaces.
  • Select and mix paints to achieve desired colours and textures.
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolding and ladders safely.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area, ensuring proper disposal of waste materials.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety guidelines and company policies.
  • Communicate effectively with site managers, colleagues, and clients.
  • Estimate material requirements and communicate needs to supervisors.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Painter in construction or maintenance.
  • Excellent knowledge of painting materials, tools, and techniques.
  • Proficiency in surface preparation, including sanding, scraping, and patching.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality finishes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good physical stamina and manual dexterity.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations in a construction environment.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Painting and Decorating.
  • CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
  • Experience with various types of paint application equipment (e.g., airless sprayers).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • First Aid certification.
