Career.zycto is actively seeking a skilled and dedicated Mason with a strong focus on wall and tile finishing to join our expanding team in Weoley Castle, Birmingham. Your role will encompass the full spectrum of masonry, including bricklaying, blocklaying, and particularly, the meticulous installation and finishing of various wall and floor tiles. We are looking for someone who not only has the technical prowess to execute complex patterns and precise alignments but also possesses an artistic eye to envision and create visually stunning surfaces. You will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other skilled tradespeople, contributing your expertise from the initial stages of material preparation right through to the final touches that define a high-quality finish. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for masonry and tiling, including cleaning, levelling, and applying appropriate primers or membranes.
- Accurately mix and apply mortar, grout, and adhesives according to specifications and material requirements.
- Cut and shape bricks, blocks, and various types of tiles (ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, mosaic) to precise dimensions using hand and power tools.
- Lay bricks, blocks, and tiles in various patterns and configurations, ensuring correct alignment, spacing, and level.
- Perform intricate tile finishing work, including grouting, sealing, and polishing, to achieve a flawless aesthetic.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and installation procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly cared for and stored.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies on job sites.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction team members to ensure seamless project progression.
- Conduct quality checks on completed work to ensure it meets the highest standards and client satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Mason with a strong portfolio in wall and tile finishing.
- Proficiency in bricklaying, blocklaying, and various tiling techniques.
- Expertise in working with different types of masonry and tiling materials.
- Strong understanding of mixing ratios for mortar, grout, and adhesives.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
- Physical stamina and dexterity required for manual labour and working in various positions.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures on construction sites.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Trowel Occupations, Wall & Floor Tiling, or an equivalent qualification.
- Valid CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- Experience with specialist tiling projects (e.g., wet rooms, large format tiles, intricate mosaic work).
- First Aid certification.
- Full UK driving license.
