Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed clients operating within a dynamic industrial estate in Pembroke Hall, St. Andrew. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs designed to minimize risks, prevent accidents, and ensure adherence to national and international standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures in line with national regulations (e.g., OSHA Jamaica) and international best practices.
- Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments, hazard identifications, and safety audits across all industrial estate operations, including machinery, processes, and facilities.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, near-misses, and occupational illnesses, identifying root causes and recommending effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Deliver comprehensive and engaging safety training programs to employees at all levels, fostering a strong, proactive safety culture and enhancing safety awareness.
- Monitor and ensure continuous compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety legislation, industry standards, and internal company policies.
- Prepare and submit detailed safety reports, performance analyses, and actionable recommendations to management for continuous improvement.
- Manage and coordinate emergency response procedures, including fire safety, first aid protocols, and evacuation plans, ensuring readiness and effectiveness.
- Advise management on safety-related investments, necessary equipment upgrades, and procedural improvements to enhance workplace safety.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and corrective actions taken.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external regulatory bodies during inspections or inquiries, ensuring transparent and cooperative interactions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to conduct detailed risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing, educating, and engaging diverse groups across all organizational levels.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering effective and engaging safety training programs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work effectively under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- High level of computer literacy, including MS Office Suite and experience with safety management software.
- Valid Driver's License and willingness to travel within the industrial estate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Professional certifications such as NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or other recognized industry safety qualifications.
- Experience with Environmental Management Systems (e.g., ISO 14001) is a strong asset.
- Certified First Aid/CPR Instructor.
- Experience in the specific industrial sector relevant to the client (e.g., logistics, heavy manufacturing, processing plants).
