Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s team within a dynamic industrial estate in the University District, St. Andrew. This is a professional-level role requiring an individual with a robust understanding of industrial safety regulations, proactive risk management, and a passion for fostering a secure working environment. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs designed to prevent accidents, minimize hazards, and ensure full compliance with national and international standards.
As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be the cornerstone of our client’s safety culture, working across various departments and collaborating with diverse teams. Your expertise will directly influence daily operations, from machinery handling and chemical storage to waste management and emergency preparedness. This role demands a strategic thinker who can not only identify potential risks but also develop practical, effective solutions. You will be responsible for conducting regular site inspections, leading incident investigations, and ensuring all personnel are adequately trained in safety protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national legislation and international best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues within the industrial estate.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Organize and deliver safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness of risks and emergency procedures.
- Manage the collection and analysis of safety data, reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) and recommending improvements.
- Ensure the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Oversee the management of hazardous waste, chemical handling, and other environmental safety aspects.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies and external safety consultants.
- Prepare and submit necessary health and safety reports to management and relevant authorities.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through communication, engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety regulations.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control techniques.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH IGC or equivalent internationally recognized safety qualification.
- Experience with ISO 45001 or other integrated management systems.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Experience in emergency response planning and drills.
