Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to lead and manage all aspects of occupational health and safety within our bustling industrial estate in Portmore, St. Catherine. This professional role is critical to maintaining a secure, compliant, and productive environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of local and international health and safety regulations, with a proven track record of developing, implementing, and monitoring effective safety management systems in an industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures aligned with local and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Organize and deliver health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure all necessary safety equipment is available, maintained, and properly utilized.
  • Collaborate with management and departmental heads to integrate safety into all operational processes.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on H&S performance, incidents, and compliance status to senior management.
  • Stay updated with new health and safety legislation, industry best practices, and technological advancements.
  • Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire drills, first aid provisions, and evacuation procedures.
  • Oversee the proper disposal of hazardous waste and ensure environmental compliance.

Required Skills

  • Certified Occupational Health and Safety Professional (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA certification)
  • Minimum 4 years of proven experience in a Health & Safety role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS Act and Regulations, as well as international safety standards.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to influence a strong safety culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 or other integrated management systems.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in an industrial estate with diverse operational units.
  • Proficiency in safety management software.
