Zanzibar Watersports is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Part-Time Kayak Rental Clerk to join our vibrant team based in Vuga, Zanzibar City. In this exciting role, you will be the primary point of contact for guests looking to explore Zanzibar’s stunning coastline by kayak. You will be the friendly face of our kayak rental operations, responsible for ensuring every guest has a seamless, safe, and truly enjoyable experience from their initial inquiry to their return. Your daily tasks will involve managing reservations efficiently, providing comprehensive safety briefings, and assisting customers with the selection and proper launching of their kayaks. Beyond direct customer interaction, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the impeccable cleanliness and optimal working condition of our entire fleet of kayaks and associated equipment. This position is perfect for someone who genuinely loves interacting with people from diverse backgrounds, enjoys spending time outdoors, and is keen to contribute directly to creating unforgettable holiday memories for our visitors. Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly, provide information on kayak rental options, pricing, and local kayaking routes.
- Process rental agreements, manage bookings, and accurately handle cash and card transactions.
- Conduct thorough safety briefings and provide clear instructions on kayak usage, paddling techniques, and emergency procedures.
- Assist customers with fitting life vests, selecting appropriate kayaks, and safely launching and retrieving equipment.
- Regularly inspect kayaks, paddles, and safety gear for damage or wear, reporting any issues to the supervisor.
- Clean and organize rental equipment and the rental station area to ensure a tidy and professional appearance.
- Monitor weather conditions and water safety, advising customers accordingly and making informed decisions about rental operations.
- Handle customer inquiries, resolve minor issues, and provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of rentals, customer feedback, and incident reports.
Required Skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic knowledge of watersports equipment and safety protocols.
- Physical ability to lift and move kayaks (up to 20-30 kg) and assist customers.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a customer service, retail, or hospitality role, especially within the tourism sector.
- Basic first aid and CPR certification.
