Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to oversee and manage all aspects of occupational health and safety within a bustling industrial estate located in Thompson Town, Clarendon. This pivotal role involves ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel, visitors, and contractors by implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving health and safety management systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for upholding regulatory compliance, mitigating risks, and fostering a strong safety culture across the estate’s diverse operations. You will be instrumental in developing and delivering comprehensive safety training programs, conducting thorough risk assessments, and investigating incidents to prevent reoccurrence. This professional position requires a proactive individual with a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and a steadfast commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety in an industrial setting. You will work autonomously while collaborating with various stakeholders to champion safety initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the industrial estate's Health & Safety Management System in compliance with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identifications, and safety audits across all operational areas, recommending and monitoring corrective actions.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and implementing preventative measures.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and environmental regulations.
- Manage and maintain safety documentation, including permits-to-work, safety data sheets, and training records.
- Advise management on safety-related issues, providing expert guidance on risk mitigation strategies and safety performance improvements.
- Lead emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities.
- Regularly inspect and ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Promote a proactive safety culture through communication, engagement, and consistent enforcement of safety policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in occupational health and safety within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or NEBOSH certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience managing safety for multiple tenants within an industrial estate.
