Career.zycto is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Journalist to join our thriving newsroom in Chapel Allerton, Leeds. This pivotal role requires a versatile storyteller capable of crafting compelling narratives for both traditional print publications and our rapidly expanding online platforms. You will be at the forefront of local news, identifying, researching, and reporting on stories that matter to the Leeds community. Key Responsibilities
- Identify, research, and pitch compelling news stories, features, and investigative pieces relevant to the Chapel Allerton and wider Leeds community.
- Conduct thorough interviews with sources, officials, and community members, ensuring accuracy and journalistic integrity.
- Write clear, concise, and engaging copy for both print publications and online platforms, adhering to strict deadlines and editorial guidelines.
- Fact-check all information diligently to ensure accuracy and prevent misinformation.
- Optimise online content for search engines (SEO) to maximise reach and engagement.
- Generate multimedia content, including photos, videos, and audio, to accompany written pieces where applicable.
- Manage social media channels to promote stories and engage with the audience.
- Attend press conferences, community meetings, and events as a representative of Career.zycto.
- Collaborate effectively with editors, photographers, and other team members.
Required Skills
- Demonstrable experience as a Journalist (print or digital).
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong command of English grammar and style.
- Proven ability to conduct in-depth research and interviews.
- Strong news judgment and an understanding of journalistic ethics.
- Familiarity with digital publishing platforms and content management systems (CMS).
- Basic understanding of SEO principles for content optimisation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
- Experience with local government or community reporting.
- Proficiency in photography and/or videography for news content.
