Job Description

We are seeking an exceptionally talented and innovative Pastry Chef to join our culinary team at EPIC Hotel & Suites. This full-time role offers an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual to lead our pastry section, bringing a blend of traditional techniques and modern creativity to our diverse dessert offerings. The ideal candidate will be a true artist in the kitchen, capable of conceptualizing, developing, and executing a wide array of exquisite pastries, cakes, breads, and confectioneries that delight our guests and enhance their dining experience. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of pastry production, from sourcing high-quality ingredients and managing inventory to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and food safety. This position requires not only culinary prowess but also strong leadership skills to mentor and inspire junior team members. You will play a pivotal role in menu development, ensuring our pastry offerings are fresh, seasonal, and reflective of both local flavors and international trends. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and execute a comprehensive range of pastry, dessert, bread, and confectionary items for all hotel outlets, including restaurants, banquets, and room service.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the pastry kitchen, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and stock rotation of pastry ingredients, minimizing waste and controlling costs.
  • Maintain impeccably high standards of hygiene, sanitation, and food safety in accordance with local regulations and hotel policies.
  • Lead, train, and mentor junior pastry cooks and kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
  • Innovate and introduce new recipes and techniques, staying abreast of current industry trends and guest preferences.
  • Collaborate closely with the Executive Chef and other kitchen departments to ensure seamless service delivery and menu harmonization.
  • Manage production schedules, ensuring timely and efficient preparation of all pastry items.
  • Conduct regular quality checks on ingredients and finished products to ensure consistency and excellence.
  • Contribute to cost control measures through careful portioning, waste management, and efficient use of resources.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Pastry Chef or similar role in a reputable hotel or high-volume restaurant.
  • Exceptional creativity and artistic flair in pastry design and presentation.
  • In-depth knowledge of pastry techniques, baking principles, and ingredient properties.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills.
  • Excellent understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations (HACCP principles).
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in inventory management and cost control.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, consistent products.
  • Fluency in English (Kinyarwanda is a plus).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Culinary degree or diploma from a recognized institution specializing in pastry arts.
  • Experience with Rwandan local ingredients and traditional dessert preparations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new menu items successfully.
  • Previous experience working in a 4 or 5-star hotel environment.
  • Portfolio showcasing previous pastry creations.
