Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to spearhead our occupational health and safety programs within a dynamic industrial estate environment located in Seville, St. Ann’s Bay. This professional role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with local and international safety regulations, fostering a culture of safety, and continuously improving our health and safety performance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in industrial safety, an excellent understanding of risk management principles, and the ability to effectively communicate and implement safety protocols across all levels of the organization.

As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety management systems. You will conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, providing expert guidance and corrective actions to mitigate hazards. Your role will involve close collaboration with various departments, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure that all operations adhere to the highest safety standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with national and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Deliver engaging and effective safety training sessions to employees at all levels, fostering a proactive safety culture.
  • Monitor and report on H&S performance, providing detailed analysis and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all necessary permits and licenses related to health and safety are obtained and maintained.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and emergency services as required.
  • Manage the Hazardous Materials program, including storage, handling, and disposal procedures.
  • Advise management on current and emerging health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Lead emergency response planning and drills for the industrial estate.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and other relevant documentation.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in Health & Safety management within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver safety training programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Internationally recognized H&S certification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, CSP, CRSP).
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in a multi-site or large-scale industrial operation.
