Mvurwi Engineering Works is seeking a dedicated and experienced Metal Bending Operator to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient bending and forming of various metal components, essential for the production of agricultural equipment, structural elements, and custom fabrication projects. You will work with a range of materials, including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, transforming raw sheets into precise shapes according to engineering drawings and specifications. Your expertise in setting up and operating press brakes and other bending machinery will be critical to maintaining our high standards of quality and production efficiency. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain various metal bending machinery, including press brakes (manual and CNC), roll formers, and other related equipment.
  • Read and accurately interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine bending specifications, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Set up machine tooling, calibrate controls, and adjust parameters (e.g., pressure, speed, angle) according to material type and thickness.
  • Perform first-piece inspection and subsequent quality checks using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, and tape measures to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Identify and troubleshoot minor machine malfunctions or production issues, performing basic adjustments as necessary.
  • Handle and position metal sheets and components safely and efficiently, utilizing overhead cranes, forklifts, or manual methods where appropriate.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
  • Execute routine preventative maintenance on equipment and report any significant mechanical issues to supervision.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, including welders, fabricators, and supervisors, to ensure smooth workflow and project completion.
  • Maintain accurate production records and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience as a Metal Bending Operator or similar role.
  • Proven proficiency in operating press brakes and other metal bending equipment.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret complex engineering blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of various metal types, their properties, and how they react to bending processes.
  • Competency in using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, protractors, and tape measures.
  • Solid understanding of shop mathematics and geometry relevant to metal fabrication.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to handle and manipulate metal sheets and components.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical certification or diploma in metal fabrication, welding, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience with CNC press brake programming and operation.
  • Forklift operator certification.
  • Basic welding or metalworking skills.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and a proactive attitude towards process improvement.
