Key Responsibilities
- Assist skilled tradespersons (carpenters, masons, electricians) with various tasks on-site.
- Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Prepare construction sites by cleaning debris, setting up barriers, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Operate small hand and power tools safely, under supervision where necessary.
- Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and compact earth as required.
- Remove hazardous materials and waste from sites in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Perform general site clean-up and maintenance to ensure a safe and organized working environment.
- Follow blueprints, instructions, and safety guidelines precisely and without deviation.
- Support site supervisors and foremen in daily operational needs, demonstrating initiative.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order, reporting any defects immediately.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and strength, capable of lifting up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Basic understanding of construction site safety practices and procedures.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential for project timelines.
- Effective communication skills to understand instructions and report issues.
- Strong work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid G Class Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Experience with specific construction equipment (e.g., skid steers, forklifts – basic operation is a plus).
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Working at Heights certification.
- WHMIS certification.
- Prior experience in construction or a related heavy labour field.
