Zanzibar Experience Tours & Safaris is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Entry-Level Museum Guest Assistant to join our team in Kwahani, Zanzibar City. As a Museum Guest Assistant, you will be the welcoming face of our cultural experiences, responsible for creating a positive and memorable visit for every guest. You will assist visitors with a wide range of inquiries, provide engaging information about exhibits, direct them through the site, and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience from arrival to departure. This role is perfect for someone with a friendly demeanor, excellent communication skills, and a genuine desire to connect people with the stories and treasures of Zanzibar. No prior museum or extensive experience is required; we are looking for individuals eager to learn, grow, and contribute to preserving and celebrating our unique heritage. You will play a crucial role in maintaining a welcoming atmosphere, assisting with daily operations, and supporting our mission to educate and inspire our visitors, helping them to discover the true essence of Zanzibar’s past and present.
Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greet and welcome all visitors upon their arrival to the museum or cultural site, setting a positive tone for their visit.
- Provide accurate, engaging, and comprehensive information about the exhibits, historical context, and cultural significance of the site.
- Assist visitors with general inquiries, offer clear directions, and provide recommendations to enhance their overall experience.
- Support the ticketing process, which may include scanning tickets, guiding visitors to entry points, or assisting with basic sales transactions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting entrance area and visitor common spaces throughout operating hours.
- Monitor visitor flow and assist with crowd management to ensure a comfortable, safe, and pleasant environment for all.
- Report any maintenance needs, security concerns, or significant visitor feedback to the appropriate supervisor promptly.
- Assist with the setup and execution of special events, educational workshops, or guided group tours as needed.
- Operate basic audio-visual equipment for presentations or informational displays if required, following training.
- Proactively promote other cultural tours and unique experiences offered by Zanzibar Experience Tours & Safaris.
- Handle visitor comments, suggestions, and complaints professionally and efficiently, escalating to management when necessary to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Adhere strictly to all safety and security protocols, emergency procedures, and company policies.

- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills in both English and Swahili.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in any customer-facing role (e.g., retail, hospitality, tourism, volunteer work).
- Basic foundational knowledge of Zanzibar's history, culture, and key local attractions.
- Ability to communicate in additional international languages (e.g., French, German, Italian, Spanish).
- Completion of secondary education or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience handling cash or operating a basic point-of-sale (POS) system.
- First Aid and CPR certification (training will be provided if not currently held).
