Are you a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety professional with a passion for creating secure and compliant industrial environments? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed client’s teams within a bustling industrial estate in Clark’s Town, Trelawny. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of health and safety operations, ensuring adherence to national and international standards, and fostering a robust safety culture amongst all personnel.
As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in protecting our client’s most valuable assets – their people and their operations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs tailored to the unique challenges of an industrial setting. This includes identifying potential hazards, conducting thorough risk assessments, and recommending effective control measures. Your expertise will be vital in preventing accidents, minimizing occupational health risks, and maintaining a workplace free from harm.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust Health & Safety policies, procedures, and management systems in alignment with local regulations and international best practices (e.g., OSHA, OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001).
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement, documenting findings and tracking corrective actions.
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments for various industrial processes, machinery, and activities, developing strategies to mitigate identified risks.
- Lead incident investigations for all accidents, near-misses, and occupational health incidents, determining root causes and implementing preventative measures.
- Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs for employees and contractors, covering topics such as hazard communication, emergency procedures, confined space entry, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure all necessary H&S permits, licenses, and certifications are obtained and maintained, preparing and submitting required reports to regulatory bodies.
- Coordinate emergency response planning, including fire drills, first aid provisions, and evacuation procedures, ensuring readiness for all potential scenarios.
- Champion a proactive safety culture across the industrial estate, encouraging employee participation and promoting continuous improvement in H&S performance.
- Manage and maintain safety equipment, ensuring it is in good working order and regularly inspected.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in Health & Safety management within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Jamaican H&S regulations and international standards (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH general certificate or equivalent).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of delivering effective training and producing clear reports.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent advanced H&S qualification.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
- Familiarity with specific industrial processes common in large estates (e.g., logistics, light manufacturing, warehousing).
