Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of daily educational and recreational activities for children aged 0-5.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, ensuring their safety and engagement.
  • Support children with personal care routines, including feeding, changing nappies, and assisting with toileting.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Observe and accurately report on children's development, behaviour, and overall well-being to senior staff.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents/guardians, providing updates on their child's day.
  • Adhere strictly to all safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
  • Help prepare and serve healthy snacks and meals, promoting good eating habits.
  • Assist with setting up and tidying away equipment and resources, ensuring an organised learning space.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience working with children, ideally aged 0-5, in a formal or informal setting.
  • Basic understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and its principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach towards children's development.
  • Willingness to undergo or possessing an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
  • Paediatric First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain one.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work varying hours as per the needs of the childcare setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare (e.g., NVQ, CACHE).
  • Prior experience working specifically in a nursery or daycare setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of child development stages and age-appropriate activities.
  • Completed Safeguarding Children training.
  • Multilingual abilities are a plus, especially within diverse communities.
