Key Responsibilities
- Conduct advanced research and experimentation on novel materials, including polymers, composites, metals, and ceramics, to discover new properties and applications.
- Design, execute, and meticulously analyze experiments to understand material properties, performance, and failure mechanisms under various conditions.
- Utilize a comprehensive suite of characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, mechanical testing, thermal analysis) to assess material structure-property relationships.
- Develop and optimize material synthesis and processing techniques for specific applications, ensuring scalability and reproducibility.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and product development teams to seamlessly integrate new materials into cutting-edge products.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, compelling presentations, and publish scientific findings in reputable journals to document progress and disseminate knowledge.
- Stay relentlessly abreast of the latest scientific advancements, industry trends, and emerging technologies in materials science through continuous learning and networking.
- Mentor junior scientists and actively participate in knowledge sharing sessions, fostering a culture of growth and continuous improvement within the team.
- Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols and quality standards in all research and development activities, maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in hands-on materials research and development.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of core material science principles, including thermodynamics, kinetics, and mechanics of materials.
- Proficiency in a broad range of material characterization techniques and their interpretation.
- Demonstrated experience in experimental design (DOE) and advanced statistical data analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal, for effective technical communication and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific material classes relevant to advanced electronics, renewable energy, or biomedical applications.
- Proficiency in German language (B2 level or higher) for local team integration and documentation.
- Experience with computational materials science tools (e.g., DFT, MD simulations, FEM analysis).
- Proven track record of innovation, including patent applications, successful technology transfers, or significant scientific publications.
- Project management experience in an R&D setting, demonstrating the ability to lead and deliver complex projects on time and budget.
