Job Description
As a Derrickhand, you will be a vital member of the drilling crew, working on the derrick floor during drilling operations. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth and safe handling of drill pipe, casing, and tubing, as well as maintaining the drilling fluid systems. You will play a direct role in the success of drilling projects, contributing to operational efficiency and upholding the highest safety standards.
Your responsibilities will extend beyond mere physical tasks. We are looking for an individual with a keen eye for detail, strong mechanical aptitude, and an unwavering commitment to safety protocols. You will be responsible for racking and stacking pipe in the derrick, guiding the drill pipe into the rotary table, and assisting in the connection and disconnection of drill strings. Furthermore, you will be heavily involved in mixing and maintaining drilling mud, ensuring its proper weight and viscosity, which is critical for wellbore stability and overall drilling performance.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain the derrick equipment, including the top drive, drawworks, and associated tools.
- Guide and rack drill pipe, casing, and tubing in the derrick.
- Assist in connecting and disconnecting drill strings, collars, and other downhole equipment.
- Monitor and maintain the drilling fluid (mud) system, including mixing chemicals, adjusting properties, and managing pit levels.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on drilling equipment, reporting any faults or issues.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety procedures, company policies, and environmental regulations.
- Participate actively in pre-tour and safety meetings.
- Assist in rigging up and rigging down the drilling rig.
- Work collaboratively with the drilling crew, following instructions from the Driller and other senior personnel.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area on the derrick floor and surrounding decks.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Derrickhand or in a similar drilling crew role (e.g., Floorhand, Roughneck).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate heavy machinery.
- Excellent physical stamina, strength, and agility.
- Proficiency in understanding and applying safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ability to work effectively at heights and in confined spaces.
- Solid teamwork and communication skills.
- Basic understanding of drilling fluid properties and maintenance.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant vocational training or certifications in drilling operations.
- Experience with specific drilling technologies or equipment common in the energy sector.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Advanced safety training (e.g., H2S, confined space, fall protection).
- Familiarity with German industrial safety standards (e.g., DGUV).
- Fluency in German is a plus, but not strictly required.
