Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health & Safety Officer to lead our safety initiatives within a bustling industrial estate environment in Half Way Tree, Kingston. This professional role is critical to maintaining a secure, compliant, and productive workplace for all personnel and operations. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs, ensuring strict adherence to local regulations and international best practices. This position calls for a proactive individual with a deep understanding of industrial hazards, risk management, and a passion for fostering a strong safety culture. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain occupational health and safety policies and procedures in line with national legislation and international standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and site inspections within the industrial estate to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
- Lead and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Manage the preparation and coordination of emergency response plans and drills (e.g., fire, medical emergencies, chemical spills).
- Monitor and report on H&S performance, compiling statistics and proposing improvement strategies to management.
- Ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and readily available.
- Advise management on H&S matters, including legislative changes and their implications.
- Collaborate with various departments to integrate safety into all aspects of operations.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the industrial estate.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in occupational health and safety management, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and relevant international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Excellent risk assessment and hazard identification abilities.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and reporting.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent recognized H&S qualification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with safety management systems implementation and auditing.
- Familiarity with specific industrial processes and associated risks.
