Job Description

St. Bernard’s Primary School is seeking a skilled and proactive Caretaker to join our team in Ha Pita, Maseru. This is a crucial role that ensures our school premises are always in excellent condition, providing a clean, safe, and functional space for our students, teachers, and visitors. As our Caretaker, you will be the backbone of our facility management, responsible for a wide range of tasks from general maintenance and repairs to groundskeeping and ensuring the security of the campus. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine daily checks of the school premises, identifying and addressing maintenance issues promptly.
- Execute minor repairs across the school, including basic plumbing, electrical fixes, carpentry, and painting.
- Ensure all areas of the school, including classrooms, corridors, offices, and restrooms, are clean, tidy, and hygienic.
- Manage waste disposal and recycling systems efficiently, ensuring proper collection and segregation.
- Maintain school grounds, including gardening, sweeping pathways, and ensuring clear access to all entrances.
- Monitor security systems, lock and unlock premises according to schedule, and report any suspicious activity.
- Assist with setting up and dismantling equipment for school events, assemblies, and functions.
- Oversee the stock of cleaning and maintenance supplies, reporting needs for replenishment.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe environment for everyone on campus.
- Respond to urgent maintenance requests and emergencies as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a caretaking, facilities management, or similar maintenance role.
- Demonstrable skills in general building maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
- Ability to operate and maintain basic cleaning and groundskeeping equipment.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and practices.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Physical stamina and capability to perform demanding manual tasks, including lifting and carrying.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Basic communication skills to interact effectively with staff and students.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Previous experience working in a school or educational institution setting.
- Knowledge of local suppliers and service providers for maintenance needs.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
