Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the night shift care team, ensuring high standards of dementia care are maintained.
- Oversee the implementation and regular review of individualized care plans for residents with dementia.
- Provide direct personal care and support to residents, responding to their needs with sensitivity and respect.
- Monitor residents' health, well-being, and behaviour patterns throughout the night, documenting observations accurately.
- Administer medication in accordance with company policies and relevant regulations.
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, liaising with medical professionals and families as required.
- Ensure a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment, minimizing disturbances and promoting restful sleep.
- Foster effective communication with families, reporting on resident status and addressing concerns.
- Support and mentor junior staff, promoting best practices in dementia care.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date care records, utilizing electronic systems where applicable.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development relevant to dementia care and night shift leadership.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in elderly care, with significant focus on dementia care.
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience within a care setting.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in challenging situations.
- Strong ability to empathize, show patience, and provide compassionate care.
- In-depth knowledge of various stages of dementia and effective communication techniques.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage challenging behaviours calmly.
- Proficient in care plan development, assessment, and record-keeping.
- Current First Aid and Basic Life Support certifications.
- Full understanding of care regulations and safeguarding procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or higher in Health & Social Care, or equivalent qualification.
- Specialized training or certification in advanced dementia care.
- Previous experience working specifically on night shifts in a care coordination or senior role.
- Familiarity with electronic care planning and management systems.
- Knowledge of local community resources and services in Edinburgh.
