Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of youth mentors, providing ongoing support and professional development.
- Develop and implement engaging mentorship programs, workshops, and activities tailored to the needs of young people aged 11-18.
- Oversee the successful delivery of mentoring sessions, ensuring adherence to best practices and safeguarding policies.
- Conduct regular evaluations of program effectiveness and mentor performance, implementing improvements as needed.
- Act as a primary point of contact for mentees, mentors, parents, and community partners.
- Facilitate group discussions, team-building exercises, and individual mentoring sessions as required.
- Maintain accurate records of participant progress, attendance, and program outcomes.
- Advocate for young people's needs and ensure their voices are integrated into program development.
- Collaborate with local schools, community organisations, and other stakeholders to expand program reach and impact.
- Manage program resources and budgets efficiently, ensuring sustainable operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in youth work, mentorship, or related social services.
- Demonstrable leadership and team management abilities, including coaching and supervision.
- Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse groups of young people and adults.
- Strong organisational, planning, and project management capabilities, including time management for flexible hours.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering engaging educational and mentoring content.
- Ability to work both independently with initiative and as part of a collaborative, supportive team.
- Thorough understanding of safeguarding principles, child protection policies, and best practices for working with vulnerable youth.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one promptly upon offer).
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in Youth Work, Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Prior experience in curriculum development or program design for youth-focused initiatives.
- Familiarity with the local community resources, youth networks, and educational landscape in York.
- First Aid and Mental Health First Aid certification.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting on program outcomes.
