Job Description

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in creating an accessible and engaging learning environment, working closely with educators, parents, and other specialists to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and support strategies. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group academic support to students with diverse learning abilities, including those with learning disabilities, developmental delays, and behavioral challenges.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and other prescribed learning strategies under the guidance of lead educators.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to meet students' specific needs and learning styles, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student self-esteem, independence, and social skill development.
  • Monitor student progress, record observations, and provide regular feedback to teachers and parents regarding student achievements and areas for further support.
  • Assist students with organizational skills, homework completion, and test preparation.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure a cohesive and consistent approach to student learning and well-being.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and learning support.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful environment, adhering to all school and organizational policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong empathy, patience, and understanding of diverse learning needs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Proficiency in adapting teaching methods and materials
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning theories
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience with specific learning support technologies or assistive devices
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Familiarity with the Ontario curriculum
