Job Description
This role requires a comprehensive understanding of occupational health and safety regulations, practical experience in industrial settings, and the ability to implement effective safety management systems. The Health & Safety Officer will be instrumental in safeguarding our operational environment, protecting our workforce, and ensuring compliance across our industrial estate in Bridgeport, Portmore. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring all operations adhere to local and international health and safety standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety programs and policies.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training for employees at all levels.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities.
- Ensure all industrial operations adhere to local OHS regulations and international standards.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, providing expert guidance and recommendations.
- Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and crisis management.
- Oversee the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Promote a positive safety culture through awareness campaigns and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS regulations and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong analytical skills for conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Proficiency in safety management software and MS Office Suite.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence safety behaviors.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with integrated management systems (IMS) combining QMS, EMS, and OHS.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of environmental protection laws and sustainability practices.
- Advanced diploma or professional certification in an industrial safety discipline.
