Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to lead and manage all aspects of occupational health and safety within a bustling industrial estate located in Bodles, Old Harbour. This professional role is critical to ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment for all personnel, visitors, and contractors operating within our facilities. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs and procedures that align with national regulations and international best practices.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of industrial operations, risk management, and environmental health and safety (EHS) principles. You will be responsible for conducting thorough risk assessments, identifying potential hazards, and developing effective control measures to prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses. This position requires a proactive individual who can champion a positive safety culture through engaging training sessions, regular inspections, and effective communication across all levels of the organization.
Your day-to-day will involve collaborating closely with departmental managers, supervisors, and employees to ensure adherence to safety protocols. You will investigate all incidents and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Furthermore, you will manage emergency preparedness plans, conduct safety audits, and maintain accurate records of all safety-related activities. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with local regulations and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across the industrial estate.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and deliver engaging safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation and reporting requirements.
- Oversee the management of hazardous substances, waste disposal, and environmental protection initiatives.
- Prepare and present regular H&S performance reports to management, highlighting trends and recommending improvements.
- Manage emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture through active engagement, communication, and leadership.
- Maintain accurate records of all safety inspections, training, incidents, and corrective actions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Knowledge of Jamaican EHS legislation.
