Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct personal care and support, including assistance with hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration (as authorized), and mobility.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with residents, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Assist residents with daily living activities (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), promoting independence where possible.
- Facilitate social, recreational, and educational activities both within the residence and in the community.
- Monitor and document residents' physical and mental health status, reporting any changes or concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment.
- Provide emotional support and companionship, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being.
- Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including privacy and confidentiality.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, families, and external service providers to ensure holistic care.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a caregiving or support role, preferably in a residential setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to care.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer literacy for documentation and communication.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Clean criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Social Service Work, Developmental Services Worker, Personal Support Worker, or a related field.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health challenges.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
- Valid G-class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Familiarity with local community resources in Guelph.
