Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct personal care and support, including assistance with hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration (as authorized), and mobility.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with residents, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Assist residents with daily living activities (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), promoting independence where possible.
  • Facilitate social, recreational, and educational activities both within the residence and in the community.
  • Monitor and document residents' physical and mental health status, reporting any changes or concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including privacy and confidentiality.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, families, and external service providers to ensure holistic care.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a caregiving or support role, preferably in a residential setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to care.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation and communication.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Clean criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in Social Service Work, Developmental Services Worker, Personal Support Worker, or a related field.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health challenges.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
  • Valid G-class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Familiarity with local community resources in Guelph.
