Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a leading industrial estate in the picturesque Tower Isle, Ocho Rios. This professional role is pivotal in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and protecting the well-being of all personnel and assets within a dynamic industrial environment. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust occupational health and safety programs tailored to the unique challenges and operational demands of an industrial estate.
As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be the cornerstone of our safety strategy, working proactively to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement effective control measures. Your responsibilities will span across various aspects, from conducting regular site inspections and audits to developing emergency response plans and leading incident investigations. This role demands a strong understanding of local Jamaican OSH regulations, as well as international best practices, to ensure our operations meet and exceed required standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with local regulations and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety inspections, and audits across the industrial estate to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on all health and safety matters.
- Design and deliver engaging safety training programs, including induction, emergency preparedness, and specific hazard awareness.
- Ensure all site operations comply with Jamaican Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and relevant industry standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all safety-related activities, incidents, training, and certifications.
- Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Promote a positive safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety committees, and regular communication.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies and ensure timely submission of required reports and documentation.
Required Skills
- Certified Safety Professional (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry, IOSH Managing Safely)
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican OSH legislation and environmental regulations.
- Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigation.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in a Health & Safety role within an industrial, manufacturing, or estate management setting.
- Experience with ISO 45001 or other integrated management systems.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Proficiency in safety management software or systems.
