Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in building installations to join our dynamic team in Donholm, Nairobi. This crucial role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of electrical systems within various building projects, from initial concept and design through to final commissioning and handover. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all electrical installations comply with relevant national and international standards, industry best practices, and client specifications. You will play a pivotal role in designing robust, efficient, and safe electrical systems for commercial, residential, and industrial properties, contributing significantly to the structural integrity and functionality of our projects.
Your day-to-day will involve developing detailed electrical designs, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm systems, data networks, and other low voltage systems. You will conduct site surveys, prepare technical specifications, review contractor proposals, and meticulously supervise the installation process to guarantee adherence to design intent and quality standards. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting stringent deadlines. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop comprehensive electrical systems for various building types, including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm, security, and low voltage (ELV) systems.
- Prepare detailed electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
- Conduct site surveys and inspections to assess existing conditions, monitor construction progress, and ensure adherence to design, safety standards, and local regulations.
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with specifications and quality benchmarks.
- Review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs, and provide technical guidance throughout the construction phase.
- Identify and resolve complex electrical engineering issues and challenges that may arise during design or construction.
- Ensure all electrical designs and installations comply with relevant local (e.g., Kenya Electricity Regulations) and international codes and standards (e.g., BS 7671, IEC standards).
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources related to electrical engineering tasks.
- Prepare project documentation, as-built drawings, and operational manuals.
- Implement sustainable and energy-efficient electrical solutions wherever possible.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in electrical design and installation for building projects.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP) for electrical design and drafting.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., Kenyan electrical codes, BS 7671, NFPA).
- Demonstrable experience with power distribution, lighting design, fire alarm systems, and ELV systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proven project management and organizational abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Professional Engineer (Eng. R.) with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with sustainable building practices and green building certifications (e.g., LEED).
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and smart building technologies.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
