Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Nurse for General and Ward Service to join our dedicated team, serving a diverse patient population within a reputable healthcare facility in Granton, Edinburgh. This vital role involves providing direct patient care, assessing patient needs, developing and implementing care plans, and evaluating patient outcomes in a ward setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients on the ward, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by medical practitioners, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, symptoms, and medical information, promptly reporting any changes or concerns to the medical team.
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring a smooth and supportive experience for patients and their families.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring compliance with clinical governance and data protection guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with doctors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated, patient-centered care.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques to promote recovery and well-being.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies, demonstrating strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Ensure a safe and clean ward environment, adhering to infection control policies and health and safety regulations.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their dignity, privacy, and rights are respected at all times.
  • Participate in ward meetings, training sessions, and continuous professional development initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Valid NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration
  • Proven experience as a Staff Nurse in a general ward setting
  • Strong clinical assessment and observation skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficiency in administering medications and performing clinical procedures
  • Sound knowledge of relevant healthcare policies, procedures, and ethical standards
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a demanding workload
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care
  • IT literacy for electronic patient record systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
  • Experience with specialist ward services (e.g., surgical, medical, elderly care)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in relevant areas
  • Experience in mentoring junior staff or students
