Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker specializing in Family & Community support to join a vital team serving the Colinton area of Edinburgh. This role offers a unique opportunity to work directly with individuals, families, and community groups, providing essential support, guidance, and intervention. As a Family & Community Social Worker, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding vulnerable individuals, promoting family well-being, and fostering a supportive community environment. You will manage a diverse caseload, undertaking comprehensive assessments, developing person-centred care plans, and coordinating access to a range of local resources and services. This position requires a proactive approach, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of relevant legislation and best practices in social work. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals and families to identify needs, risks, and strengths.
  • Develop, implement, and review person-centred support plans in collaboration with service users and relevant agencies.
  • Provide direct support, advice, and advocacy to individuals and families, facilitating access to appropriate resources.
  • Safeguard vulnerable children and adults, adhering strictly to relevant legislation and organisational policies.
  • Liaise and collaborate effectively with multi-agency partners, including health services, education, housing, and voluntary organisations.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date case records and reports.
  • Participate in regular supervision, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Respond to crisis situations and undertake risk assessments as necessary.
  • Facilitate community-based initiatives and groups to promote well-being and social inclusion.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work Scotland (or equivalent regulatory body).
  • Proven experience in family and community social work.
  • Strong assessment, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with strong report writing skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in IT systems for case management and record keeping.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-qualification experience in a related field such as child protection or adult support.
  • Experience working within a local authority or similar public sector setting.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services in Edinburgh.
  • Specific training in therapeutic interventions or family support models.
