Career.zycto is seeking an exceptional Reporter – News & Field to join our network of talented journalists, serving the vibrant community of Stockbridge Market Area and broader Edinburgh. This is a thrilling opportunity for a proactive and inquisitive individual with a sharp eye for detail and an unwavering commitment to truth. You will be at the frontline of local newsgathering, investigating stories, conducting interviews, and delivering accurate, engaging content across various platforms. This role demands a dynamic individual capable of working independently in fast-paced environments, often on location, to cover breaking news, community events, and in-depth features.

Your work will directly contribute to informing and engaging the public, upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity and professionalism. We are looking for someone who thrives on uncovering untold stories, building strong community relationships, and presenting information in a clear, compelling manner that resonates with our audience. The successful candidate will be expected to pitch unique story ideas, develop sources, and report on diverse topics ranging from local government and business to arts, culture, and social issues impacting Stockbridge and its surroundings. You’ll use your strong observational skills and journalistic ethics to present balanced perspectives, ensuring all reporting is fair, impartial, and impactful. Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and report on news stories relevant to the Stockbridge Market Area and greater Edinburgh.
  • Conduct interviews with individuals, officials, and community members to gather information and perspectives.
  • Write clear, concise, and engaging news articles, features, and reports for various media platforms (print, digital, social).
  • Develop and maintain a network of reliable sources within the community.
  • Attend press conferences, public meetings, and community events, often outside standard office hours.
  • Operate field reporting equipment, including cameras, audio recorders, and mobile reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with editors and other team members to ensure accuracy, fairness, and timely delivery of content.
  • Adhere to ethical journalism practices and company guidelines at all times.
  • Generate original story ideas and pursue investigative leads.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a reporter or journalist, specifically in field reporting.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong interviewing and investigative research abilities.
  • Demonstrable understanding of journalistic ethics and media law.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing news cycles.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools for content creation and publishing.
  • Excellent observational and analytical skills.
  • A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle for field assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
  • Experience reporting on local government, community issues, or business news in Scotland.
  • Familiarity with the Stockbridge Market Area and Edinburgh’s cultural and political landscape.
  • Basic photography and videography skills for multimedia content.
  • Proficiency in Scottish Gaelic is a plus, but not essential.
