Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our team, working directly within a prominent industrial estate in Coopers Pen, Falmouth. This professional role is critical in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment for all personnel and operations within the estate. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to national regulations and international best practices. You will be the primary point of contact for all health and safety matters, conducting regular inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures in line with national regulations (e.g., OSH Act of Jamaica) and international standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across the industrial estate to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending preventative measures.
  • Organize and deliver health and safety training programs for employees at all levels, fostering a proactive safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety legislation and internal company standards.
  • Manage emergency response planning, including fire drills, first aid provisions, and evacuation procedures.
  • Advise management on health and safety performance, regulatory changes, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate with department heads to integrate safety measures into daily operations and new projects.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OSH legislation and regulations.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety certification.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems.
  • Experience in crisis management and emergency response planning.
