This multifaceted role requires expertise in both studio-based productions and on-location field shoots, encompassing a wide range of projects from corporate videos and live events to documentary segments and promotional content.
As a Camera Operator, you will be instrumental in bringing creative visions to life, responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of various camera equipment, including professional broadcast cameras, DSLRs, and associated lighting and audio gear. You will collaborate closely with directors, producers, and other crew members to interpret storyboards, execute shot lists, and ensure the technical and artistic quality of all footage. This role demands a proactive approach, excellent problem-solving abilities under pressure, and a commitment to delivering high-quality visual content that captivates audiences. You will be expected to adapt quickly to different shooting environments, often working to tight deadlines and managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Key Responsibilities
- Operate various camera equipment (broadcast, DSLR, mirrorless) for studio and field productions.
- Set up and tear down cameras, lighting, audio equipment, and grip gear efficiently.
- Collaborate with directors and producers to understand project requirements and achieve desired visual styles.
- Execute shot lists, framing, and camera movements according to creative briefs.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on camera equipment.
- Ensure proper focus, exposure, and white balance for all shots.
- Monitor audio levels and ensure sound quality in conjunction with audio engineers.
- Work effectively as part of a larger production crew, communicating clearly and professionally.
- Adhere to safety protocols and best practices for equipment handling and on-location shoots.
- Assist with other production tasks as required, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Camera Operator in a professional production environment.
- Proficiency with various camera systems (e.g., Sony, Canon, Blackmagic, ARRI).
- Strong understanding of cinematography principles, including composition, lighting, and camera movement.
- Ability to work with different lens types and accessories.
- Familiarity with grip equipment and basic lighting techniques.
- Excellent visual storytelling and framing abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel for field shoots.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Film Production, Media Studies, or a related field.
- Experience with live broadcast or multi-camera setups.
- Knowledge of post-production workflows and editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve).
- Experience operating drones for aerial cinematography (with appropriate certification).
