Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our dynamic team, focusing specifically on ensuring world-class safety standards within an active industrial estate in Junction, St. Elizabeth. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Health & Safety policies and procedures tailored for an industrial estate environment.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement.
- Perform detailed risk assessments for various industrial processes, equipment, and work activities.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for all levels of staff.
- Ensure compliance with local OSH legislation (e.g., Factories Act, OSH Act) and international safety standards.
- Manage the implementation and review of emergency preparedness plans and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities.
- Advise management on best practices for industrial safety and occupational health.
- Promote a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns and employee engagement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial, manufacturing, or logistics environment.
- Professional certification in OSH (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH).
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican OSH legislation and international safety standards.
- Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train and influence others.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with H&S management software systems.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience in environmental management systems (ISO 14001).
- Familiarity with heavy machinery safety protocols.
