Herald Printers Ltd. is seeking a dedicated and energetic Printing Press Assistant to join our production team in Rockfort, Kingston. As a Printing Press Assistant, you will play a crucial supporting role in the operation of our state-of-the-art printing presses, ensuring that every project meets our high standards of quality and efficiency. You’ll work alongside experienced press operators, learning the intricacies of machine setup, material handling, ink management, and quality control. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist printing press operators with machine setup, adjustments, and operation.
  • Load and unload paper stock, ink, and other printing materials onto the press, ensuring correct placement and handling.
  • Monitor print quality throughout production runs, meticulously identifying and reporting any imperfections or deviations from specifications.
  • Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance of press components and work areas to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Retrieve and stage materials for upcoming jobs, ensuring efficient workflow and minimizing downtime.
  • Assist in mixing and preparing inks according to job specifications and color matching requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times, strictly adhering to all company safety protocols and industry regulations.
  • Support the finishing department with tasks such as cutting, binding, folding, or packaging as needed, ensuring a seamless production flow.
  • Collaborate effectively with press operators, other assistants, and supervisors to meet demanding production deadlines and maintain stringent quality targets.
  • Learn and adhere to all company policies and procedures related to production, safety, and quality assurance.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately and precisely.
  • Strong attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) regularly and perform tasks requiring physical exertion.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a fast-paced production team.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including occasional evenings or weekends, if required by production schedules.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, for clear communication and understanding of instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience (e.g., 6-12 months) in a manufacturing or production environment, ideally within a printing or related industry.
  • Familiarity with printing processes, machinery, or materials.
  • Certification in a relevant technical field (e.g., industrial maintenance, graphic arts, mechanical technology).
  • Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment (certification a plus).
  • Knowledge of basic color theory and color matching principles.
