Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Full-Time Maintenance Technician to join our team in Yallahs, Saint Thomas Parish. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning and reliability of NWC’s water infrastructure, including pumping stations, treatment facilities, distribution networks, and other related mechanical and electrical systems. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions, and contribute significantly to our commitment to uninterrupted service delivery to the community. Key Responsibilities

  • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, control systems, and other water/wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues using technical manuals, schematics, and testing instruments.
  • Perform corrective repairs to restore equipment to full operational capacity, minimizing downtime.
  • Inspect facilities and infrastructure regularly to identify potential problems and implement proactive solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory usage.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, NWC policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns and system failures, including after-hours calls when required.
  • Collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and operational staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Assist in the installation of new equipment and system upgrades.
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance procedures and equipment reliability.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of proven experience as a Maintenance Technician in an industrial or utility setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in pump and motor repair, alignment, and lubrication.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including reading schematics, working with control panels, and understanding single and three-phase power systems.
  • Basic plumbing skills for pipe fitting, valve repair, and leak detection.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or vocational certification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
  • Experience with SCADA systems or other automated control systems.
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes and wastewater collection systems.
  • Certification in specific trades (e.g., welding, HVAC, confined space entry).
  • Familiarity with NWC operational procedures and safety standards.
