Job Description
A Safety Officer is a critical role that ensures the well-being of all personnel and the smooth, compliant operation of an organization. This position demands a proactive approach to identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across all operational areas. The ideal candidate will be a guardian of our safety culture, leading by example and continuously seeking improvements in workplace safety practices. They will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with national and international regulations, particularly those relevant to Germany and the EU. You will be responsible for conducting thorough risk assessments, investigating incidents, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with German and EU regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determine root causes, and implement preventive measures.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees, ensuring adherence to safe work practices.
- Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and corrective actions.
- Advise management on health and safety matters and contribute to the continuous improvement of the safety management system.
- Ensure the proper use, maintenance, and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Develop and manage emergency response plans and conduct regular drills.
- Collaborate with department heads to integrate safety measures into daily operations and project planning.
- Stay updated on new safety legislation, industry best practices, and technological advancements.
Required Skills
- Certified "Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit" (Safety Specialist) according to German regulations or equivalent international certification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma).
- Proven experience in occupational health and safety management, particularly within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of German and European health and safety legislation (e.g., Arbeitsschutzgesetz, DGUV Vorschriften).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Fluent in German and English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with ISO 45001 or other integrated management systems.
- First Aid and Fire Safety certifications.
- Experience in environmental protection regulations (e.g., Immissionsschutzgesetz).
- Leadership or supervisory experience in a safety-related role.
