Key Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms for patients, ensuring all necessary instruments and materials are ready.
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative, surgical, and prophylactic treatments, by handing instruments and maintaining a sterile field.
- Perform chairside duties, including suctioning, passing instruments, and anticipating the dentist's needs.
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control protocols and guidelines.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and post-operative care instructions.
- Manage patient records, update medical histories, and process dental X-rays.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments, manage recalls, and maintain an organized daily schedule.
- Monitor and maintain dental supplies and inventory, placing orders as needed.
- Provide compassionate patient support and ensure their comfort throughout their visit.
- Assist with laboratory tasks such as pouring models and fabricating temporary crowns.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Dental Assistant in a clinical setting.
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of infection control and sterilization protocols.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to take and process dental radiographs (X-rays).
- Proficiency in dental software for patient charting and scheduling.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Dental Assisting from a recognized institution.
- Experience with specific dental specialties (e.g., orthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery).
- Familiarity with Dentrix or similar practice management software.
- Additional certifications related to dental assisting.
- Ability to speak multiple local languages (e.g., Swahili).
