Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Full-Time Curator to join our dedicated team in Mitte, Aachen. This pivotal role involves researching, developing, and managing engaging exhibitions and collections that resonate with our diverse audience. You will be instrumental in interpreting our valuable artifacts and artworks, ensuring they tell compelling stories while maintaining scholarly integrity. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scholarly research for collection interpretation and exhibition development.
- Lead the conceptualization, planning, and execution of temporary and permanent exhibitions, managing budgets and timelines.
- Oversee collection management, including acquisitions, cataloging, conservation liaison, and inventory.
- Develop and deliver public programs, lectures, and written content (labels, essays) for varied audiences.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with education, marketing, and operations teams.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grant writing and donor cultivation.
- Stay current with museological trends and contribute to strategic planning.
Required Skills
- Master’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, History, Archaeology, or a related humanities field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of direct curatorial experience in a museum, gallery, or cultural institution.
- Proven track record in exhibition design, development, and project management.
- Strong research, analytical, and writing skills; portfolio of projects preferred.
- Proficiency with collection management software (e.g., TMS, EMu).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and German (C1 level preferred).
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
- Experience securing grants and sponsorships for cultural projects.
- Proficiency in additional European languages relevant to the collection.
- Familiarity with digital engagement platforms and virtual exhibition technologies.
- Established professional network within the national and international curatorial community.
