Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fleet Manager to oversee our diverse fleet operations based in Abbeydale, Sheffield. This critical role encompasses comprehensive management of our vehicle maintenance programs, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance across our entire fleet. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing preventative maintenance schedules, managing external repair services, and ensuring all vehicles adhere to strict regulatory standards, including MOTs, roadworthiness, and environmental regulations.
Beyond vehicle integrity, a significant aspect of this role involves meticulous staff scheduling. You will be responsible for planning and coordinating driver and technician rotas, optimizing routes, and ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet operational demands efficiently and economically. This requires a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. The successful candidate will also manage fuel consumption, tire management, and telematics systems to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs. You will continuously monitor fleet performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to achieve these goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for the entire fleet.
- Manage vehicle servicing, repairs, and inspections, ensuring compliance with all legal and safety standards (e.g., MOTs, O Licence requirements).
- Strategically plan and optimize staff schedules for drivers and maintenance technicians, ensuring efficient deployment and coverage.
- Monitor and manage fuel consumption, vehicle utilization, and operational costs to identify and implement efficiency improvements.
- Ensure all fleet operations comply with local and national transportation regulations, health and safety standards, and company policies.
- Utilize fleet management software and telematics systems to track vehicle performance, driver behavior, and maintenance needs.
- Manage relationships with external suppliers, garages, and service providers, negotiating contracts and ensuring quality service.
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of drivers and maintenance staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Conduct regular fleet audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Prepare and present regular reports on fleet performance, budget adherence, and operational efficiency to senior management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in fleet management, including vehicle maintenance and operational logistics.
- Strong understanding of UK transport regulations, O Licence compliance, and health & safety standards.
- Proficiency in fleet management software, GPS tracking, and telematics systems.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and optimize staff schedules and resources.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Valid UK driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) National / International.
- Relevant professional qualification in transport, logistics, or automotive management.
- Experience with budget management and cost control within a fleet operation.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations pertaining to vehicle emissions and waste disposal.
