Are you an Agronomist with a deep-rooted passion for soil science and sustainable cultivation practices? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Agronomist to join our innovative team in Trèfles, Rose Hill. This pivotal role involves providing expert agronomic advice, conducting field research, and implementing strategies to enhance crop yield, soil fertility, and overall agricultural sustainability for our diverse clientele.
As our Agronomist, you will be instrumental in bridging the gap between cutting-edge agricultural science and practical, on-the-ground farming solutions. You will work closely with local farmers and agricultural businesses, guiding them towards optimized land use, efficient resource management, and resilient crop production systems. Your daily activities will span comprehensive soil analysis, precise nutrient management planning, integrated pest and disease control, and the promotion of environmentally friendly farming techniques. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough soil analysis and provide tailored recommendations for soil health improvement and nutrient management.
- Perform regular field visits to monitor crop growth, identify potential issues (pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies), and provide timely solutions.
- Develop and implement sustainable cultivation practices to optimize yield, minimize environmental impact, and enhance long-term soil fertility.
- Advise farmers and agricultural clients on crop rotation, irrigation techniques, seed selection, and integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
- Prepare detailed reports on field observations, experimental results, and recommended agronomic interventions.
- Stay updated on the latest agricultural technologies, research findings, and regulatory changes, integrating relevant knowledge into practice.
- Deliver training and workshops to educate farmers on best agricultural practices and new farming technologies.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop innovative agricultural solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of field activities, client interactions, and project outcomes.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Agronomist or in a similar agricultural consulting role.
- In-depth knowledge of soil science, plant physiology, crop nutrition, and sustainable agricultural practices.
- Strong understanding of pest and disease identification and management.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation relevant to agronomy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with farmers and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently in field environments and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Valid driving license and willingness to travel extensively within the region for fieldwork.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Experience with GIS and remote sensing technologies for agricultural applications.
- Familiarity with local agricultural systems and common crops in Mauritius.
- Certifications in specific agricultural practices (e.g., organic farming, precision agriculture).
- Proficiency in Creole and/or French in addition to English.
